Award Walter Tull the Military Cross

The petition calls upon David Cameron to posthumously award Walter Tull the Military Cross for which he was recommended. Walter Tull was the first Black officer in the British Army. He was also Britain’s first Black professional footballer too. During the First World War, due to discriminatory rules Black people were barred from becoming officers.

100 Great Black Britons Campaign

During 2002, the BBC devised a campaign and television series called 100 Great Britons where the public voted for Winston Churchill as the Greatest Briton of all time. Every Generation developed an alternative campaign and poll to raise the profile of the Black contribution to Britain and to challenge the notion of Britishness.
