Address to our nation

As we look forward to the New Year we need as a community to ensure that we are all moving to the same beat and supporting each other with the various endeavours. Make that special effort to know our black neighbours on the street, stop walking pass each other glazed over on public transport and worse still at networking events.

Spend money in our community, make sure your children see you asking for advice and support through our networks. Reach out and support activities home and abroad. For some of us in no time at all we will reach pension age and then wonder why nobody knows who on earth we are, worse still when you can not get to a library or a health clinic think about the money you squandered.

So do yourself a favour and ensure that you arrange for tax efficient ways to make donations to your favour good cause. Click on to www.allaboutgiving.org Let' s find away that causes and charities we care about in our voluntary sector are well supported.

If you work for someone , really make a go of it constantly review your plans and goals and promise yourself if you find yourself getting embroiled in further employment hazards. Promise yourself you will press on with your other plans .

If need be best to have your dignity and mental health in tact and move on sideways . Nevertheless, at least you can survive another day elsewhere. You can not do that from an institution. Maybe next year would be the year that you finally get your business up and running, become a real modern detective get a folder / filing cabinet and start beavering a way now go on the internet, attend conference, seminars too many of us beaver away for someone else and then wonder why on earth we do not know anyone else doing what we do because we have not been visible.

Ensure before you leave anybody's job, have that wonderful reference and ensure that you have at least 6 months salary put away or find away of legally looking after your finances.

Promise yourself that you will do all the things you were going to do but never got round to it .Start next year now get a diary, put in your birthday , your loved ones then think about your holidays. Book that with a Black business maybe go on a tour to Egypt, Senegal, Gambia or take a cruise to the Caribbean.

How many of us join a gym in January visit a few times and then it peters off, find yourself a gym buddy , integrate going to the gym into your week and next thing you know , people can start to set the clock by you. Don't forget to talk to our brother and sisters.

If you work for yourself as I do, pat yourself on the back and get your taxes sorted before the end of the year send your cards now to clients. Pay all your associates on time for Xmas because come next time round they will not be there for you. Take them all out for a drink and celebrate how we like to do it in style and at home…….

This has been an exceptionally busy year for us at Well Placed, keeping your head down pays off eventually together with planning and researching information well. Next time you get the papers and you spot a reading group, a black elders group meeting and reminiscing or a report being launch it is likely to have my involvement There is no typical week, last week I was out every evening on top of running the business during the day. But just the thought of going back to someone's office to worry about coffee cups, telephone cover just fills me with such dread.
